This isn't about demonizing cigarettes, this is truth. Countering endless pro-smoking propaganda that we're bombarded with on art and fashion blogs and in movies, as well as the effects of spending time with lovable smokers.
Invented anti-smoking propaganda is ineffective. Reality, however, has had a lasting impact on me. The imagined reality of smoking, as portrayed in the media, is a lie.
I've never wanted to quit as much as I did the day that I realized that I was being duped, made to think that smoking is cool. Sure, just like everyone else I say, I like the action of it, I like the way it tastes, I'm not doing it because someone told me it was cool. But really, of all of the actions and tastes to experience, all of the ways to spend money, why did I choose this one?
The FDA has unveiled graphic new warning labels that will soon adorn packs of cigarettes. They include images of a baby in intensive care with the words “smoking can harm your baby,” and, a picture of a man with stitches running up his chest with the words “smoking can kill you.” All warnings will take up half the packaging and contain the phone number: 1-800-Quit-Now.
fiestafugitives asked: Hi there. Just curious, have you quit yet (I couldn't tell whether it was you on the two last two posted B&W photos...)? Patrick
hi patrick! those photos were submitted by my friend Lexi who’s been battling a really strong addiction. She’s currently using nicotine patches and things are looking up for her! The ashtray shot tells more of her story! I’m currently only smoking the occasional bummed cigarette. I’m pretty content to smoke only this much, but I also think that I should probably draw a harder line. Thoughts?

- snapped this quick shot with my android retrocamera app. yes, it’s 5:48am. yes, i’m awake smoking. i am so fucking addicted to nicotine, that i wake up at least twice in the middle of the night to smoke. i get myself out of bed, stumble to the couch, and puff away in order to fall back to sleep. this photo is a plea. don’t start smoking. ever. addiction is serious, frustrating, and maddening.
